About This Cause
Green Country Habitat for Humanity builds quality, affordable homes for Tulsa area families. Our premise is simple: everyone deserves a decent place to live. Many people think that Green Country Habitat gives away homes. The truth is, no one ever gets a "free house." Habitat families work hard to purchase their homes. They participate in over 30 hours of financial literacy and homeowner education, and complete "sweat equity" through volunteerism in our wall shop and ReStores. Families who are selected to partner with Green Country Habitat for Humanity meet certain criteria: meeting income requirements, the ability to repay a 30‐year, low interest mortgage, and a need for housing. Since 1988, Green Country Habitat for Humanity has partnered with the community to help more than 634 families enjoy the stability and security of home ownership. Our loyal volunteer base is key to helping families become homeowners, as groups work side by side with Habitat crews to construct each home. Green Country Habitat is funded through donations and sponsorships from generous individuals, corporations, faith communities and foundations. Green Country Habitat also operates four retail stores: the ReStore, which sells home improvement items that are donated to our organization, and the ReStore Rack, a clothing and small home goods thrift store. The ReStores serve to cover over 80% of our operating expenses, which directs more immediate impact of donor dollars towards the homes we build.
