New Hope Housing’s core purpose is to provide life-stabilizing, affordable, permanent housing for people who live on limited incomes. By offering a model of excellence in high quality housing + services, our vision is to be a permanent institution serving Houstonians most at risk of housing loss.
About This Cause
If any roof could restore a life, then homelessness would be solved by shelter alone. But real healing takes permanence, dignity, and a door that does not close behind you. With the support of generous private philanthropy, New Hope Housing provides a dignified, sustainable solution to homelessness and prevention. We carry out our work by offering: AFFORDABLE HOUSING New Hope Housing currently owns and operates 1,7588 apartment homes across 12 Houston properties. We have two properties opening in 2025 and another opening in 2026, offering 357 additional apartment homes to at-risk families, individuals, and seniors. New Hope’s portfolio will soon total 15 properties with 2,115 deeply affordable apartment homes for more than 4,000 people. Committed to lifetime ownership, New Hope creates enduring neighborhood assets that evolve with community needs. As Texas’ leading developer of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), we build in transit-centered, amenity-rich neighborhoods. Our properties feature natural light, local art, welcoming multi-purpose community rooms, shared kitchens for events, and green spaces to host service providers, classes, and activities that support residents. RESIDENT SERVICES New Hope’s Resident Services Program (RSP) is integral to our mission, ensuring residents not only stay housed but thrive. Our 15-person team, in collaboration with more than 50 community organization partners, provides healthcare, financial education, life skills development, peer recovery, food access, and more. The RSP prevents eviction, promotes stability, and creates pathways to long-term success. New Hope develops at the nexus of art, architecture, and nature, honoring our residents and the neighborhoods we build in with award-winning design on a careful budget. Apartments earn rental revenues, which pay for property management, maintenance, repairs and replacement reserves—to maintain our properties at an appropriate level and to ensure long-term durability. The RSP, real estate development activities, human resources, and other management expenses are driven by a smaller operating budget, which in 2025 is $7.1MM—a fraction of the total organizational budget including apartment operations (or “earned income”). These funds must be raised through generous private philanthropy.
