Mission Statement
Families Uniting Families is a 501 (c) 3 social services organization that is licensed by the State of California to recruit, prepare and approve foster & adoptive families. In addition, FUF provides family and father focused parenting classes & case management services to support families to remain together. FUF is also considered a "teaching" environment as we work with seven different universities who place student interns under our guidance. FUF has prepared over 100 student interns from the likes of: USC, CSUN, CSUDH, CSULA, CSULB, and UC Irvine. We just added Simmons College to the list.
About This Cause
ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY Founded in 2004, Families Uniting Families is recognized as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization [EIN# 73-1696751] & State of California Exempt Charity Organization [CT0136774], www.familiesunitingfamilies.org & info@familiesunitingfamilies.org. Led by James M. Schrage, FUF was founded on February 20, 2004 to provide foster family homes with a specific focus on youth 14-21. FUF continues to work with adolescent children and has expanded our work with children throughout the 0-21 age-span. As of August 2017, FUF has safely provided care to over 600 children, and in total, approximately 150,000 days of care in our foster care program. By the summer of 2004, Families Uniting Families was licensed by the State of California (LIC# 197804605) to begin preparing certified foster families. In August 2004, FUF obtained our State of California Foster Family Agency license. By December of 2004, FUF was officially approved as a 501c3 and a State of California charity exempt organization. The agency was also awarded contracts in Los Angeles and Orange Counties to provide foster family agency services. In 2010, FUF was awarded a federal grant through Children's Institute Inc. to initiate Project Fatherhood--a father focused intervention that utilizes an open group method to improve parenting through the initiation of the father's positive presence, both with himself and in his family. This funding was only provided for the initial year. FUF has funded our PF program though in-kind, private donations and foundation funding. Since 2010, our Project Fatherhood program has worked with over 150 men. It is also qualified as an approved parenting program through the court system. In February 2014, FUF received its state license (LIC#197806407) to certify adoptive families to care for children who need a permanent family. FUF's Foster Family Agency program was re-written in November 2016 to meet the state's new child welfare standards. Our program was approved by the state in May 2017 and was accredited by CARF International on November 30, 2017.
