Mission Statement

Good Samaritan Community Services is a catalyst for change, supporting individuals and families by providing excellent community services to overcome the impact of poverty. These services include a child development program, afterschool and summer youth enrichment programs, a college readiness program, family services, and the only nationally accredited senior center in south Texas. What began as a ministry of the Episcopal Church on the west side of San Antonio in 1951 now reaches 5,500 individuals and families across six (6) sites in five (5) South Texas cities.

About This Cause

Good Samaritan Community Services (GSCS) has served as a “good neighbor” since 1951 to those living in a highly impoverished San Antonio neighborhood. At that time this community was grossly under-served and had the highest infant mortality rate in the state of Texas. GSCS brought lifesaving vaccinations, medical care, and food assistance to children and families in need. GSCS' programs and services have since evolved and expanded to not only meet basic needs, but to also help clients achieve self-sufficiency and strengthen their families. GSCS offers extensive social service programs that address the overall needs of at-risk children, youth, families, and senior citizens. What began as a ministry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in downtown San Antonio moved to the west side in 1951 and now extends its reach across six (6) sites in South Texas.
