Mission Statement
Madonna Center began in 1939. Over the last 78 years, Madonna has continuously expanded its reach to serve the ever-changing needs of our community. We provide early head start, youth services, family outreach, emergency food assistance and nutrition and wellness programs for seniors aged 60 and above. Our mission is to serve families, on the West side of San Antonio, struggling with issues of poverty in a culturally responsive environment through comprehensive social services, ensuring the human dignity of all.
About This Cause
The Madonna Center, Inc., a United Way Agency, is an organization devoted to helping San Antonio’s economically underprivileged citizens. The Center is located in San Antonio’s Westside and for more than 78 continuous years, has provided numerous social services & education to low-income families, children, youth, adults and senior citizens. Early Child Care Education Program Madonna Center offers services for children from age 2 months to 4 years, focusing on developing activities well suited to each age group. Through the implementation of evidence-based Early Head Start curriculum, the programs feature motor skill development, reading readiness & language development, activities in music, arts and crafts, and imaginative playtime to develop creativity. Every day, our programs create a quality group and home-based model that is family-centered. HIPPY—Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters HIPPY is and evidenced-based family support model that works directly with parents in their homes to give them books, activities, and skills needed for them to take responsibility for preparing their children for school. Child Care Staffing Solutions Program Madonna Center Child Care Staffing Solutions (CCSS) is a child care staffing program dedicated to meeting short and long-term substitute and permanent child care staffing needs. The program mission is to serve child care centers with staffing needs through the provision of temporary personnel. The vision of CCSS is to reduce understaffing, one of the biggest challenges faced by child care centers. After School Program This program operates from the time school is dismissed until 6:00 p.m. and all day during school holidays, spring break and the summer break. The program offers a supervised learning environment for children ages 4 – 13. Transportation services from elementary and private schools within the center’s service area is provided. Each child receives a complete supper, assistance with their school work, engage in special projects and participate in sports and outdoor games. Summer Camp Program The program provides a safe supervised informal education for school aged children ages 4 - 13 for 9 - 10 weeks during the. Activities include sports and games, arts and crafts, hiking, music, field trips to such sites as the Zoo, Botanical Gardens, movie theaters and the museums. Senior Citizens Program Individuals aged 60 and above, are provided with 1/3 of their daily nutritional allowance through our lunch program in a safe and supportive environment. Seniors participate in socialization, recreation, health & wellness education, computer classes, as well as leadership development activities. They enjoy a variety of field trips, luncheons, arts and crafts. Outside experts are invited to present informative programs on topics of vital interest to seniors. In order to reduce isolation and empower senior’s wellness, we offer transportation to elders who have transitioned from drivers to riders. Note: must reside within a three mile radius. Emergency Assistance Program This program provides basic necessities for survival on short term basis. In addition to food and clothing this service provides limited amounts of furniture, baby formula, and household items. How Donations Help……. $25 will provide one senior an annual sponsorship which includes free daily lunch, activities, and education. $50 will feed one individual for a week. $100 will provide 2 weeks of nourishment for a family of four. $500 will sponsor one youth for Summer Camp program (10 weeks).
