About This Cause
Vibrant Works (San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind) has been San Antonio’s icon for training and educating the blind and severely visually impaired, in addition to being a leader in manufacturing for the military and government agencies. Through its rehabilitation programs as well as employment opportunities in its manufacturing assembly plant and military base stores, Vibrant Works empowers people who are blind to live high-quality, independent and productive lives. Founded in 1933, the Lighthouse began as a small sewing plant on the south side of San Antonio and has since grown into an agency that today employs more than 500 employees and provides more than 20,000 services to blind and visually impaired individuals annually. Vibrant Works supports our nation’s military efforts by manufacturing writing instruments, military apparel items, products for the aerospace industry and much more. The Vibrant Works Rehabilitation Center provides vocational and independent living rehabilitation programs that increase the independence of individuals who are blind or visually impaired, as well as those with other disabilities. While the products and manufacturing jobs may have changed over time, Vibrant Works' focus on providing opportunities for people who are blind has remained steadfast.
