Mission Statement
Morningside Ministries is a faith-based, not-for-profit ministry that has been serving older adults for over 50 years. Our three campuses provide a full range of housing and health services, including independent retirement living, assisted living, rehabilitation and nursing care. We provide older persons with a sense of home where they remain active, find compassionate care and each resident and their family is valued.
About This Cause
Morningside Ministries was born out of an idea first discussed in 1956 by a group of local church leaders. The idea was to create a facility providing older adults in San Antonio and surrounding communities with housing, personal care and nursing services in an atmosphere of faith. Morningside was officially organized in 1959 by the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and, five years later, joined by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and the First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio. Today, Morningside Ministries is a non-denominational, 501(c)3 non-profit organization open to all people, regardless of faith. Morningside operates two distinct retirement facilities—the original location on Babcock Road and our newest facility in Boerne. They are home to a diverse population of 700 residents who enjoy high-quality care in an atmosphere of compassion. Approximately half of our residents in skilled-nursing care cannot afford the full cost of their care. In 2023, Morningside Ministries provided $2.5 million in charity care to 73 of our most needy residents. The population of older adults will increase rapidly over the next few decades. Not only will there soon be many older adults in the population, these older adults will also be living longer. In fact, the number of persons over 85 is expected to double between 2000 and 2025, and quadruple by 2040. One in 7 persons over 65 are expected to develop Alzheimer’s disease, as well as 1 of every 2 over 85. As our population ages, the number of older adults requiring personal care in a nursing facility will increase at an unprecedented rate. The number of older persons needing care is expected to increase by 100% between 2000 and 2030, seriously taxing the ability of families and elder care facilities to provide for them. Morningside Ministries is working hard to meet this challenge. Nonprofit providers like Morningside Ministries have a long tradition of community service and concern, and these values drive the delivery of care and services to the elderly. Morningside’s very purpose places emphasis on providing an atmosphere of fellowship and caring and helping older persons preserve the dignity and quality of life they deserve. Morningside offers a commitment to quality that stems from its mission of service and its history of compassion.
