Mission Statement

Founded in 1978, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Greater Houston provides a home away from home, supportive services, and hope for families with seriously ill or injured children being treated by one of our partner hospitals in the Greater Houston area.

About This Cause

Immersed in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC) and spread across four locations, RMHC Greater Houston includes – Holcombe House (70 bedrooms), a House inside Texas Children’s Hospital (19 bedrooms; 10 Family Lounges), a House inside Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital (20 bedrooms, 4 small kitchens), and a Family Room inside M.D. Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital (2 private bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge area). Each location offers the families a welcoming, clean, and cozy place to stay and sleep, complementary hot meals and snacks, family lounges to share stories or huddle with a friend, laundry facilities and kitchens to keep up with daily necessities, activities for the children and families at each location, and free parking and transportation to and from the TMC for those staying at Holcombe House. As of January 1, 2024, RMHC Greater Houston also includes the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, in partnership with TCH at UT Health, the C.H.E.E.R. Rooms in UTMB Regional Maternal and Child Healthy Program clinics, and hospitality carts serving Neonatal/Postpartum floors at Memorial Hermann NE and Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. RMHC Greater Houston was founded by Dr. Donald Fernbach, Chief of Hematology and Oncology Service at Texas Children’s Hospital, along with a group of parents, leaders, and McDonald’s franchisees, addressing a vital need to build a safe haven near the Texas Medical Center for families with seriously ill children.
