Mission Statement

NHI is a youth organization that fosters future community leaders who see themselves playing an important role as leaders within the Latin community. Our goal is for the Latin community to have a strong pool of young leaders who are committed to building their educational background, networks, and community assets.

About This Cause

The National Hispanic Institute (NHI) has a 43-year history of designing, testing, and researching self-transformation leadership concepts and experiences. NHI establishes the means to attract and engage high potential students in learning experiences that inspire their imagination, develop their repertoire of skills and competencies, broaden their knowledge of Latin culture and make community leadership a life-long learning commitment. NHI employs its own uniquely defined “Immersive-Disruptive Learning” pedagogy as the chief strategy for student learning. Students who gain admission begin participating each summer starting in ninth grade and many continue as participants, volunteers and interns until the completion of their undergraduate studies. This model forms an eight-year continuum of summer leadership learning experiences. Community Equity Building (CEB)-a strategy that focuses on asset development rather than deficit mindsets- is the chief strategy for community engagement.
