Mission Statement

The Florence Senior Community Senior is to enhance the quality of life for those over 50 in our community and to support nonprofit community organizations with similar interests.

About This Cause

The Florence Senior Community Center will serve adults in our community through a variety of services such as nutrition, recreation, education, health and fitness, social interaction and other such services as needed for the betterment of senior citizens. The Center does not discriminate on the bases of race, color, national origin gender, sex, age, religion, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation or any other legally protected status. Any person who has attained the age of 50 and whose primary residence is in the state of Colorado is eligible for membership. Senior and others who are not members but wish to participate in activities of the organization are welcome as guests. Family members of the Center are also welcome as guests. The Board of Directors are elected by the membership in November. Term of office will be for one year from January 1 to December 31 following the November election. Sixty days prior to the November election, the Board of Directors will appoint A Nominating Committee whose duty shall be to obtain applications from prospective candidates for the coming year. Paper ballots will be prepared listing the candidates and a provision will be made for write in candidates on the ballot. Thirty days prior to the election a ballot will be mailed to each current member. Return envelopes will be provided and ballots will be returned in unmarked sealed envelopes with the return envelopes containing the ballots. Three judges, not affiliated with the Center will be appointed by the Nominating Committee to count the ballots. The sealed envelopes will be set aside and opened by election judges and counted. Information will then be given to the Nominating Committee who will announce the results by posting the results on the bulletin board. The posted results are to include name of candidates and write in candidates. Three members, from the general membership not related to a candidate, will be asked to be observers and supervise the counting of ballots. The Officers are Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and five other members. These nine members make up the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is responsible for planning and the overall governance of the Center. The officers will keep correct and complete books and records of all activities and functions of the Center including Financials, Minutes, Committee Reports and Historical Information. An informal audit or financial review will be conducted quarterly by the Audit Committee. A report of the audit will be presented to the Board of Directors and made available to the membership by posting it on the bulletin board. An annual formal audit may to authorized as necessary. A report of the audit will be made available to the members and donors on request.All records are available for review by any member upon request. Our Grant Writer is Martha La Casse. The Board of Directors are authorized to accept on behalf of the Center, any contribution, bequest or grants for the general purpose of or for any specific use or special uses of the Center. The Center is available for rentals. Events can be booked in either the Founders Room, the Dining Room or both. The fee is $25.00 an hour for each room. Non-Profit groups and memorials may make a donation to the Center in lieu of the hourly fee. The Upper Arkansas Area Agency on Aging Region XIII serves lunch at noon on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for seniors 60 or older. This program also serves Meals on Wheels in the community. Monday events; FSCC Diabetic Meeting at 10:00 A.M., cards at 12:30 P.M., Bible Study 5:30 P.M., and Young Life 6:30 P.M. Tuesday events; AA and Al-Anon 7:00 P.M. Wednesday no events Thursday events; Blood Pressure Clinic at 12:30 P.M., Oil Painting Class at 1:00 P.M., Cards at 5:30 P.M., and Karaoke and Dance 6:00 P.M. Friday events; Pot Luck, Jam and Open Mic at 5:00 P.M. Saturday events; Flying Fingers Stitchery 9:30 A.M. first Saturday of each month only, Church at 9:00 A.M., Compassion Food Bank third Saturday of each month, and cards at 5:30 P.M. Sunday events; The Well Spring Church 7:00 A.M. ending at 8:00 P.M. At the Center's activities there is a $2.00 suggested from each person. In 2015 an out reach program has been set up to help within our community. Thank you.
