Mission Statement
Weld Food Bank’s (WFB) mission is to “Lead and Engage Our Community in the Fight Against Hunger.” Under this mission, we “Lead” by raising awareness of hunger and its consequences, create understanding of the pervasiveness of hunger and promote advocacy with compassion, inclusion, and respect. We “Engage” by actively involving the community and working towards our primary goal of food equity for all. And we “Fight Against Hunger” by placing ourselves directly where we see the highest need, offering our services without discrimination. The purpose of our organization is to alleviate suffering from hunger in Weld County, CO by providing healthy foods to those unable to obtain adequate, nutritious food, and who are, or will otherwise, suffer from hunger.
About This Cause
In our work to alleviate hunger and nurture a healthy, thriving community, WFB is committed to a strict non-discrimination policy and believes that every individual has the right to the basic human need of nutritious food. WFB’s vision is that all people in Weld have access to the healthy and affordable foods needed to grow and thrive in our community. As such, WFB serves any individual experiencing food insecurity with respect and dignity. The following is a brief description of our programs. Emergency Food Package: Designed for people in need of short-term emergency food assistance, the EFP provides enough food to feed four people for three days. Similar to Everyday Eats, WFB also supplements this shelf stable package with perishable fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat, providing approximately a week worth of additional nutritious foods. Everyday Eats: This program provides a monthly shelf stable food box to low-income adults, age 60 and older. WFB supplements all Everyday Eats boxes with ample amounts of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and dairy; ensuring proper nutrition. Mobile Food Pantry: An ongoing, year-round program that reduces food insecurity by distributing nutritious, cost prohibitive perishable foods directly to disadvantaged and underserved areas in Weld County, Colorado. Farms to Families: The FTF brings perishable fruits, vegetables, and meat, but differs from the MFP program, as it utilizes a smaller vehicle that can easily fit in all parking lots and is designed to serve smaller groups of 30-40 individuals. Kids Cafe: Serves hot meals and snacks after school to children in low-income families at risk of missing dinner, ensuring growing children receive the food they need to thrive. Summer Feeding Program: Similar to Kids Cafe, this program assists low-income families with meals and snacks during summer when the risk of child hunger increases due to the absence of school meals. School Food Pantries: Designed to fill the gap between other food programs for high-risk children who sometimes have no food at home. Pantries guarantee hungry children have access to food during school. Pantries also allow their families to take food home if they do not have enough for dinner. Backpack Program: In partnership with local schools, this program sends a Backpack Bag of nutritious, easy to prepare food home with children at risk of missing meals over the weekend when free and reduced school meals are not available. To better serve children and families in need, WFB extended the program over the summer as well.
