Mission Statement
Since 1983, the mission of the Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place has been to enrich the quality of life for the aging population in Kendall County and surrounding Boerne area. For 35 years, we have designed programs and services specifically for seniors, helping them to combat and manage chronic diseases. We strive to offer and establish a sense of Value, Independence, Belonging and Empowerment (VIBE) in all that we do for the seniors we serve. This core value is the foundation for each of our programs that address the needs and issues facing the aging. Socialization, nutrition, education and health and wellness are the core focus areas shaping our programmatic efforts.
About This Cause
The current programs at the Rainbow Senior Center at Kronkosky Place consist of: The Nutrition Program, which includes both our on-site congregate lunch program and home-delivered programs for area shut-ins provided through the Kendall County Meals on Wheels Program. In addition, meals are provided to the Golden Age Center in Comfort, Texas so that they can provide their members with a congregate lunch and home-delivered meals. Recent enhancements to the Nutrition Program include: The Pet Food Assistance Program-which allows us to provide pet food to homebound seniors who are in need of assistance paying for pet food, the Flower Delivery Program which through our partnership with HEB we deliver fresh cut flowers to our homebound seniors and the Newspaper Delivery Program in conjunction with our partnership the Hill Country Weekly we deliver a newspaper to homebound seniors along with their meal. The Transportation Program, which provides area transportation to our members who are no longer able to drive. The service provides rides to and from the center, to appointments and errand locations in the local area. The Health and Wellness Program, which provides weekly health screenings, health-related informational presentations, community health fairs, and a large health care resource library, open to the community. The Activity Program, which offers members the opportunity for daily social interaction through playing group games, physical fitness through our senior-oriented Fitness Center and weekly exercise classes, mental stimulation through classes in our Computer Learning Center, and volunteer opportunities both at the center and in the community. The Home Health Closet, which offers free durable medical equipment to anyone in the community at no cost to the client with zero restrictions on borrowing the equipment. The Community Garden, a 7,600-square foot endeavor started through the hard work and dedication of a group of members. The garden produces fresh produce to those home-bound residents and is delivered, along with easy to make recipes, via our Meals on Wheels program. The Produce Store provides free produce to anyone over the age of 60 years old. This program increases accessibility and affordability to seniors in the community.
