About This Cause
Since 1974 the Area Agency on Aging, Region One has been planning, developing, coordinating and delivering over 50 critical services to older adults and their caregivers, adults age 18+ with physical disabilities and long-term care needs, and many special populations including residents in long-term care facilities, and survivors of late life domestic violence and elder abuse. We develop new and innovative programs in response to changing lifestyles and unmet needs in our community. The Agency also promotes volunteer opportunities for more than 300 community members. The Agency annually serves more than 124,000 people, including answering over 65,000 phone calls on its 24-Hour Senior HELP LINE. We offer one-on-one counseling and education daily to clients and families looking for information, guidance, and solutions. The Area Agency on Aging partners with more than 55 subcontractor provider agencies and many public and private agencies, and collaborates with multiple professional organizations to meet the challenges of our diverse population. Arizona’s retirement-age population (65+) is expected to continue increasing, placing it among the states with the fastest growing senior populations. Our core service population is age 60 and older; however, several programs are specifically structured to include the 55 and older or 18 and older age group. We are experiencing an increase in organizational demands to provide for the needs of these growing populations, and are responding with expanded initiatives and integrated service delivery.
