About This Cause
The Autism Society of Colorado (ASC) was founded in 1970 by parents fighting for the right of their children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to receive an education in public school. In its recent history, ASC has been serving individuals with autism, families, providers and educators across the state of Colorado through state-of-the-art services and educational opportunities that leverage the unique strengths and assets of the ASD community while ensuring people with autism and their families have the support system they need to meet their basic needs and ultimately thrive. ASC's Autism Navigation Center meets individuals and families on their journey with autism, helping them attain the highest quality of life. With a robust statewide network, ASC can seamlessly connect individuals and families to resources like insurance, education and employment support, physician and therapist referrals, support groups and other needed services. The Navigation Center responds to inquiries from individuals, families, professionals, providers, and community organizations. In recent years, inquiries for assistance have dramatically increased due to amplified awareness of ASD and recognition of ASC as the "go-to" resource. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ASC has also seen an increased need and has been expanding services to support crisis response and help families meet basic needs. ASC's Social & Support Groups enable people with ASD, along with their families, to interact with others who have similar experiences, receive emotional support and validation, share information and resources and build a supportive community. ASC currently runs the following groups: ▪ Parents of children with ASD ▪ Parents of twice-exceptional children (autism + giftedness) ▪ Youth/young adults, ages 15-22 ▪ LGBTQ+ adults with ASD ▪ Partners/spouses of adults with ASD ▪ Yoga and mindfulness for young adults ages 18-30 ▪ Adults ages 30+ with ASD ASC's educational program, "Autism 101", is an introductory 30-minute training for schools, organizations and businesses interested in learning more about the autism spectrum and how to create an inclusive environment. Over its history, ASC has supported thousands of individuals and families, helping them navigate complex community services and build connections with others in the autism community. With an extensive network of partners and volunteers, ASC fills a critical role that directly supports people with ASD and expands the broader community's understanding and awareness of autism and neurodiversity.
