Mission Statement
The Deer Valley Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was formed in 1986 as one of the first education foundations in the State of Arizona. The Foundation raises funds to provide grants for student scholarships and teacher grants to bring innovative and dynamic learning experiences to our children.
About This Cause
For over 30 years, have helped the Foundation enrich the lives and educational experiences for DVUSD students. Your generosity helps to energize an educational mission of enhancing and promoting extraordinary educational opportunities. Here are a few of the programs we were able to fund last year thanks in part to your donation, and hope to continue to fund again: DVEF Science Center – FOSS Kits: DVEF voted to fund $30,000 to DVUSD for all day kindergarten FOSS kits. FOSS Science kits are distributed to teachers to help them with hands-on science lessons. The FOSS Program bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students and teachers in enduring experiences that lead to deeper understandings of the natural and designed worlds. This makes DVEF’s total funding for FOSS kits $60,000+. STEM College Scholarship / College Bound Student Dual Enrollment / AP Scholarship Programs: Through funding, DVEF was able to once again provide a $2,000 scholarship to a high school student who is enrolled in an accredited 4-year college/university pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. Our Dual Enrollment, IB Exam, AP Test, and Healthcare Scholarship Programs provided over $6,000 to students from our 5 high schools to cover the fees for their college classes while attending high school (dual enrollment classes), Advanced Placement tests, and/or Healthcare CTE courses. These scholarships are offered to students interested in pursuing a career in health care. The student’s cost of the program plus text books, if applicable, are covered. Teachers and 2nd Year Teachers Programs: DVEF honored 14 DVUSD seasoned teachers, 5 National Board Certified teachers, and 2 first year teachers for DVEF’s Teachers of the Year and Rookies of the Year awards. These teachers were honored last October at a special DVUSD Board Meeting. We also presented over 60 second year teachers with $100 to help them as they successfully completed their first year of instruction and are bringing that experience into their second year of instruction. DVEF enthusiastically works to support these teachers, their best ideas, and the need for more supplies in their classrooms. DVEF Battle of the Books: DVEF implemented and funded the Battle of the Books program in the fall of 2013. This is an extra-curricular reading incentive competition for 5th and 6th graders. Forming teams of up to three, students read four preselected books every quarter for a total of 12 books a year. The teams from each school with the highest cumulative points advance to the District competition, and then an inter-district competition. Eight teams from ten schools participated in 2013-2014, and presently the number of schools participating increased to 19 with a total of 16+ teams and 330+ students. DVEF distributed over 1,000 books to the schools. Our inter-district competition will be in May 2025. Student Health and Wellness: Our Student Health & Wellness program aids our 33,000 students with health issues in the 39 Deer Valley School District schools. Providing top-quality care and equipment gets our students back into the classroom and increases academic success. The Deer Valley Education Foundation Board and I thank you for your generous support of the teachers and students of the Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD).
