Mission Statement
Mexico Medical Missions operates a full service hospital and community health program serving the indigenous Native American population of Northern Mexico
About This Cause
Mexico Medical Missions operates a 25 bed full service hospital in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains of Northern Mexico. We serve the 100,000 Tarahumara Indians that inhabit the region as well as members of other smaller tribal groups. The Tarahumara are the poorest people group in Mexico with the least access to healthcare. As a result they suffer from the highest rates of maternal and infant mortality in Mexico, as well as a host of other health problems such as malnutrition, tuberculosis and untreated trauma. Hospital Mision Taraumara gives high level, compassionate healthcare to a people group that previously received virtually no care. The hospital has an outpatient clinic, X-ray department, laboratory, emergency room, adult and children's wards, an ICU and a birthing center. Every year we attend to 10,000 patients, perform over 300 surgeries, deliver 100 babies and provide hundreds of ambulance transports. The community health program teaches preventative health practices as well as promoting better agricultural techniques, building schools and drilling water wells.
