About This Cause

Burns are the leading cause of injury to children under age 16 in San Antonio which is the seventh largest city in the United States. Over one million burn injuries are reported annually nationwide. Smoke & fire injury is the state of Texas fifth leading cause of hospitalization. Treatment is lengthy and painful; scars are viewed as repugnant. TBSS gives immediate and ongoing financial and emotional support during recovery, rehab, and return to normalcy. TBSS is the only organization in Texas to purchase scar garments, include siblings in camp, and provide citywide prevention education programs. TBSS programs including the Pruitt Emergency Relief Program, Scar Garment Fund, Camp David for pediatric survivors, Wounded Warrior Family Retreat, Mosaic Table Program for Wounded Warriors & caregivers, Scholarships, Leaders in Fire Education (L.I.F.E.) and Camp Ax Teen Retreat. Our fire safety and burn prevention education program is innovative and unique. The overall goal of L.I.F.E. is to provide fire, safety, and wellness education programs for the prevention of death, injury, and property loss caused by fire and unintentional injury.
