About This Cause
Dentists Who Care was organized in 1997 and received its IRS 501-C3 designation in 1999. All of our dental care is donated and is coordinated through the use of our fully equipped Mobile Dental Unit . DWC was originally organized in an effort to treat the high number of indigent children in the late 1990's that fell outside the social safety nets. Our targeted population today is both children and adults that have no money, no insurance and no government help. We accomplish this task by visiting elementary schools and community centers in targeted areas of the Rio Grande Valley. The second part of our program includes the Charity Dental Voucher Program where children and adults are referred to volunteer dentists in the area to provide specialized treatment. Both the MDU services and charity voucher program come at no cost to the patient. DWC relies heavily on donations, grants and volunteerism to help support both programs. Our team of volunteer dentists and staff allows us the ability to provide these services to those most in need. Our unique method of being able to travel to many of the community centers is a plus for those that don't have any transportation to get them to a dentist. Having your own dental health insurance and transportation in this area is still a big problem for many to get the proper care they urgently need.
