Mission Statement

The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation is working to cure spinal cord paralysis through raising funds for Research, Recovery and Recreation.

About This Cause

The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation focuses on funding three areas that we believe will expedite finding the cure to spinal cord paralysis. The three areas are: Research, Recovery and Recreation. Research: We currently partner with the UT Medical School and UT Engineering students who are studying Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) patients to find and create new innovative ways to enhance their everyday lives. The Research Team has mastered technology like Biomechanics, Robotics, and Neuro-imaging to help us achieve our goals to facilitate neuro-recovery for ambulation for paralyzed patients. Their approaches are at the forefront of therapy combining techniques that range from simple ones that can be used now to more complex ones. We look to their discoveries and advancement of the future of rehabilitative techniques. Recovery: We partner with Spero Rehab Central for our one of a kind Recovery Program. Patients have access to advanced recovery therapies, a free community gym and award winning community outreach programs thanks to our donors who support and give to our cause. The goal of the gym is to provide access to wheel-chair accessible exercise equipment and assist injured individuals to improve their general health and quality of life. The individual’s initial program is set up by an occupational or physical therapist, with the goal of achieving the most optimal workout possible. Recreation: Recreation is not only important to the quality of life for those living with a spinal cord injury, it is critical to their health and well being. The Lone Star Paralysis Foundation funds various adaptive (wheelchair) sports programs from basketball and rugby to kayaking and tennis. The adaptive sports program allows those with SCI to work together as a team, support one another and have lots of fun. Additionally, much of the equipment purchased by the Foundation is placed in the Recovery Center to be made available to anyone with a spinal cord injury through the community program.
