Mission Statement

The mission of the Sickle Cell Association of Texas Marc Thomas Foundation is to support families affected by sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait in Central Texas, San Antonio and the Texas Gulf coast region.

About This Cause

The Sickle Cell Association of Texas Marc Thomas Foundation a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was founded by Marc Thomas and his wife Linda Thomas in 1997. Upon moving to Austin, Marc became frustrated with the level of care and support for sickle cell disease. Marc’s passion and dedication for helping others with this chronic illness started with his own frustration in finding appropriate support, as a person with sickle cell disease. His role as advocate made him a hero and champion among over 400 families affected by sickle cell disease. Through education and awareness, this chapter has reached over 150,000. The Sickle Cell Association of Texas Marc Thomas Foundation serves families in Austin, Round Rock, Killeen, San Antonio, Houston, Sugarland and several other locations throughout the state of Texas. Services are provided to several hundred families and include: emergency financial assistance, a camp for special needs children with sickle cell disease ages 6-14, support group meetings, newborn screening notification, certified hemoglobinopathy education, outreach and community education. Currently, we serve over 750 families affected by sickle cell disease.
