Mission Statement
The mission of the St. Francis Living Room is to improve the quality of life for low income and homeless seniors in the Tenderloin [a gritty San Francisco neighborhood] on a daily basis. A small part-time staff, committed volunteer board of directors, and dedicated volunteers from all walks of life work to provide a safe haven for social interaction, healthy breakfast, and connection to community services such as housing, health & wellness, and clothing.
About This Cause
The St. Francis Living Room is a small non-profit Senior Center in San Francisco's challenging Tenderloin neighborhood. We serve low income and homeless older adults, as we have for the last thirty years. The Living Room serves breakfast in our newly refurbished dining room. We also provide a sandwich, fruit and snack to each patron to take with them for lunch or dinner. We serve about 60 people each day. Bingo is back, along with Tai Chi, mental wellness theatre troupe performances, clothing and hygiene items give-aways, and dog appreciation events. We treat the people that visit us with respect, compassion and love, and the same is given right back to us! (If you're in the area, come volunteer some morning and you'll see how true this latter statement is.) Donations are utilized to provide for clients in need. The Living Room has only three part-time paid employees (one of which, our new executive director, has their salary paid by a separate grant). Many administrative and organizational functions are performed by our volunteers. The St. Francis Living Room relies primarily upon donations, both financial and goods (e.g. foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries) from individuals rather than government sources for its funding. Every little bit helps our small but very impactful organization.
