Mission Statement
We are a grassroots non-profit located in Louisville, KY accompanying families in the Latinx community. Our calling is to empower these families, providing a foundation for systemic change with long-term effects. Our Mission: La Casita Center enhances the well-being of Louisville's Latinx community through education, empowerment, advocacy, and wellness. La Casita Center works intentionally to build a thriving community based on mutual support and respect. Our Vision: The vision of La Casita is to connect people through solidarity to be one community.
About This Cause
La Casita has been around since the early 2000s, starting out as a group of concerned women who wanted a space to share resources and knowledge with Latinx families, who were often left behind from everything that Louisville has to offer. We have evolved into a thriving community center offering a food pantry, free legal clinics, preschool and summer camp, teen programming, support group for families with children with special needs, mental health counseling, support for domestic violence survivors, community gatherings, case management and much, much more. We are successful in this accompaniment because of our multilingual and culturally competent staff. Consider the complexity of the legal system, the school system, the healthcare system, housing, you name it—each of them is difficult enough to navigate in English, and exponentially more so if English is not your first language. Our staff speaks English, Spanish, Ma’am, and Quiche, allowing us to accompany our community in the language with which they are most confident and comfortable. There is nothing quite like La Casita in the state of Kentucky—which is why we count families from Southern Indiana, Owensboro, Frankfort, Lexington, and beyond amongst our circle. Since quarantine began, we have shifted to phone and video calls and are continuing to work hard at getting folks connected to resources and information. We have delivered over 1000 baskets of culturally competent food to our families, offered a virtual summer camp and virtual preschool, and continued our mission of creating a circle of empowerment and hospitality.
