San Antonio Jewish Senior Services (SAJSS) works to meet the needs and enrich the quality of life of San Antonio Jewish seniors and their families.
About This Cause
San Antonio Jewish Senior Services (SAJSS) has served older adults, their families, and their caregivers for 55 years. We provide a variety of programs and services, including transportation, special home deliveries, social, educational, and cultural events. the Transportation Program provides 1,000 rides each year for older adults to attend a service, program, event, meal, or class in the Jewish community and for them to make it to healthcare appointments. This program keeps older adults connected to the Jewish community and enables them to stay on top of their health needs. On a weekly basis, the SAJSS wheelchair accessible van will take older adults to Sabbath services at congregations throughout the community; senior meals at the Barshop Jewish Community Center, progrmas at various local Jewish organizations; and dialysis, physical therapy, chemotherapy, and doctors' appointments across town. SAJSS provides over 2,000 rides per year, and has already surpassed 1,000 rides in 2020, even with the current circumstances keeping more older adults at home. With the onset of the pandemic, we continued necessary medical transportation and transitioned to a weekly challah delivery program in addition to volunteer services such as grocery delivery and telephone outreach. We also provide information and referral service to connect older adults and their caregivers with local resources. We are looking forward to resuming our other programs, which include inter-generational, holiday, and social events in residential facilities for older adults as well as our monthly luncheon programs in partnership with local congregations.
