About This Cause
KMFA Classical 89.5 is the all-classical public radio station of Central Texas. KMFA is non-profit and listener-supported. In the increasingly dynamic and competitive media environment that lies ahead, KMFA is committed to handcrafting classical music experiences that are inspiring and restorative. Our mission is to uplift, entertain and educate Central Texans by providing the best in classical music and cultural programming. As an educational and cultural institution, KMFA strives to enhance the region's cultural environment by: * Playing a wide variety of classical music of the highest quality * Developing a greater understanding and appreciation of classical music throughout the community * Utilizing community musical resources to promote classical music and increase audiences for area artists * Being responsive to our members while expanding our listener base * Conducting business with the highest broadcast and ethical standards OUR STORY: The efforts of the Austin community started KMFA in 1967. When Austin’s commercial classical music radio station changed suddenly to a pop station, there was an outpouring of support from local businesses and individuals to develop a listener-supported classical music radio station.
