Mission Statement
Dallas Bethlehem Center supports families living in our South Dallas/Fair Park neighborhood through education, health & wellness programs and technology supports.
About This Cause
Founded in 1948, Dallas Bethlehem Center is a community center that supports families living in our South Dallas/Fair Park neighborhood through education, health & wellness programs and technology supports. Located in South Dallas near Fair Park in the Queen City Heights Historic District, our facility is in the middle of a residential neighborhood and each year, we serve over 10,000 local community members. The majority of those we serve are children (61%) and seniors (20%). Our priority neighborhoods are the 75215 and 75210 zip codes however we will not turn anyone away if they are in need of services. Education – Early Childhood Education –Offered in partnership with ChildCareGroup, DBC has up to 48 children between the ages of 6 weeks to 3 years onsite from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm five days a week. Almost half our 24,000 sq foot facility space is dedicated to helping these young minds grow and prepare for kindergarten. Health and Wellness - Food Pantry –DBC provides food support through our pantry distribution. Last year we served over 10,000 people through our pantry services. We are a CDP (Community Distribution Partner) with Crossroads (a hub of the North Texas Food Bank). With a focus on distributing healthy food items, DBC often supplements what we receive from Crossroads with healthy protein sources. We also work in partnership with Lovers’ Lane United Methodist Church to distribute almost 100,000 pounds of fresh produce each year. The Bethlehem Market is a client choice food pantry, allowing clients to shop for what they need/want and leave what they don't for other families. The Market is open both weekday and evening hours. Community Garden -Our community garden offers a place for residents and volunteers to join together in planting, harvesting and tending vegetables, flowers and fruits. Produce grown in the garden is used in our on-site cooking classes and is also distributed to our neighbors. Family Dinners –Each Tuesday and Wednesday evening, DBC provides a hot, healthy meal for our community. These free dinners ensure that our families have easy access to healthy food, while also serving as an entry point for a relationship based service model. About half of those we serve at Family Dinner are homeless and the other half are families with children trying to stretch their food budgets. Grocery Connect –DBC is a pilot site with Grocery Connect, an innovative partnership with Bonton Farms and Kroger that brings online, paid grocery ordering to our South Dallas food desert. Families place their grocery order online and have it delivered, free of charge, to DBC. Payments may be made by debit, WIC, SNAP or cash. Community Events – It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a community to support each member! DBC holds numerous events throughout the year that are focused on both providing much-needed services, but also on providing a place to gather and belong. Technology –In partnership with Grocery Connect, DBC provides a 15 seat computer lab, offering internet access and training classes.
