About This Cause

The Y is a unique organization both nationally and locally. Founded in 1890, the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is a charitable, non-profit organization consisting of 12 traditional branches, 10 in Tarrant County, one in Johnson County, and one in Hood County. Additionally, the Y has a year-round camp and a Sports Complex. Throughout all of the YMCA's programming, our vision is to prepare youth to succeed and serve while nurturing the potential of every child and teen. The mission of the YMCA motivates staff and volunteers to seek charitable support in an effort to provide for all, regardless of their financial capacity. As times have changed, so have the needs of the local community. The YMCA has adapted to continue to serve those needs while maintaining the core character values of caring, honesty, responsibility, and respect. A snapshot of the YMCA today would show that the Y: • Serves 100,000 people of all ages and backgrounds annually • Doubled program participation in the past 10 years • Provided direct financial assistance to over 8,500 people in 2013 • Provided $6.4 million in overall community benefit to support our neighbors in 2013 • Benefitted from over 92,000 hours donated by 3,500 volunteers through Y programs • Engages over 40,000 youth annually • Partners with numerous community agencies to provide services in over 80 locations
