About This Cause

Founded in 1947, Mental Health America of Greater Dallas [MHA - Greater Dallas] is celebrating its 75th year of service to the community! MHA - Greater Dallas's mission is to improve mental health through community education and advocacy. Thanks to you, our commitment to serve is stronger than ever! Your generous support makes our work possible! We give a voice to those without one, help individuals help themselves, and change how people think about mental illness! In 2022, your support helped us serve 48,325 people in 2022; here is the breakdown: 12,943 children received the We Help Ourselves WHO© training program; empowering children and adolescents to stay safe and happy and make good decisions based on knowledge and a strong internal value system – educating them to know what to do and who to tell in dangerous situations. 510 attended our 46th Annual Adolescents Symposium educating professionals who work with youth in schools, social services, juvenile justice, law enforcement, mental health, and other related services. 59 Mothers trained for Mothers and Babies, an evidence-based program guided by cognitive behavioral therapy and attachment therapy to prevent postpartum depression. 289 people attended Coalition on Mental Illness COMI meetings; formed and hosted by MHA - Greater Dallas, this monthly gathering of advocates, elected officials, stakeholders, providers, and individuals with mental health conditions and their family members work to address the issues affecting mental health services. 34,383 received free, anonymous, online mental health screenings; According to the 2023 State of Mental Health in America Report, 21% of adults in the United States are experiencing a mental illness, equivalent to over 50 million Americans! MHA - Greater Dallas encourages anyone experiencing early symptoms of a mental health condition to get screened. Screening saves lives! 51 support group members participated in Peer Support Group meetings; MHA - Greater Dallas's Peer-led Support groups empower individuals to make the best decisions for themselves and strive toward their mental wellness goals. 90 community professionals and advocates attended our Myths of Violence Conference and received up-to-date research on violence and mental illness, information about prevention programs, ways the media can reduce stigma, and heard gun owners’ perspectives as advocates.
