Mission Statement
The mission of the United Way is to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community.
About This Cause
The East/Central Texas United Way is a community partner, committed to identifying and resolving pressing issues that affect the lives of everyone who lives and works in our area. We strive to energize and inspire people to make a difference in our community by: Helping children succeed Strengthening & supporting families Promoting self-sufficiency The East/Central Texas United Way (formerly Palestine United Way) serves Anderson, Freestone, Leon and Limestone Counties. Don't be confused by the name, it's a reflection of who we are (but you can still find us listed as Palestine United Way in many places). The East/Central Texas United Way serves an area with nearly 90,000 residents (not counting the more than 20,000 living in prisons in Anderson County). A single donation will help our 12 partner agencies continue to provide needed services in the community. Giving the United Way gives the good feeling of having reached out a hand to influence the condition of all. It associates the individual and the company with the nationally recognized United Way organization while giving to local organizations. The individual’s gift can go to any one of the 15 partner agencies, to the community fund to benefit all or other qualified non-profit. It’s easy to join. With payroll deductions it only takes a minute to sign up. And gifts in any amount are welcome. Our partner agencies are excellent stewards of the funds they receive. As an example, for less than a dollar week, $50.00 a year, the Sanctuary House can provide one night of emergency shelter or CASA can provide training materials for a volunteer who will serve an unlimited number of abused and neglected children. Two dollars a week covers the full cost of meals for 19 days for one home bound individual. Payroll deductions are the favored way to participate. The employee signs up one time and the designated contribution are taken out over the entire year. Depending on the pay cycle (twice monthly, weekly, monthly) the amount taken from each check is very small compared to the total contribution. And when they do, your company becomes one of our corporate partners with the company name listed on printed and promotional materials. For those without payroll deduction one-time donations are certainly welcome. Of course, we encourage companies to match the employee contribution in some way. We’ll provide the necessary enrollment forms and we’ll be glad to make brief presentations to the employees to encourage participation. Our campaign goal is $125,000.00. That’s less than $1.50 per person in the four county areas. But not everyone can give $2.00 and not everyone will. The rest of us have to make up the difference.
