Mission Statement
Meals on Wheels of Texoma is a senior nutrition program that provides home-delivered meals to homebound senior citizens and disabled persons. Our goal is to support senior citizens' independence, allowing them to remain in their own home as long as possible.
About This Cause
Founded in 1980, Meals on Wheels of Texoma operates two nutrition programs which serve Cooke, Fannin and Grayson Counties in North Texas. Our Congregate meal program serves lunch at multiple Senior Center facilities throughout the three counties, providing an opportunity for seniors to get together, to socialize, participate in activities, exercise, and educational classes while enjoying a hot, nutritious meal five days a week. There is no fee charged to eat lunch, although donations are always welcome. Our home-delivered meal program provides meals delivered straight to each participant's front door. Meals are delivered 5 days a week but each recipient is given frozen meals to enjoy on the weekend. Over 90% of all home-delivered meals are delivered by a trained volunteer who also performs a quick safety check and visits with each client for a few minutes every day. Aside from the meal, our clients report that it is this safety check that is most important to them. Every year, Meals on Wheels of Texoma delivers over 380,000 meals to nearly 3,000 senior citizens. More than 700 volunteers help us deliver these meals throughout the year, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in associated delivery costs.
