Mission Statement
Using Shakespeare’s works as a cornerstone, Shakespeare Dallas serves the Southwest region with fun and accessible indoor and outdoor theatre, integrated school programs, and cultural enrichment for people of all ages and backgrounds.
About This Cause
Founded in 1972, Shakespeare Dallas offers North Texas residents a unique opportunity to experience Shakespeare in a casual park setting, as well as providing cultural and educational programs to audiences of all ages. Beginning in 2019, Shakespeare Dallas will offer an inaugural Winter Season at Moody Performance Hall in the Arts District. Based on our mission and the belief that Shakespeare’s words and ideas transcend time periods, cultural backgrounds and economic boundaries, Shakespeare remains the source of our programs. Our educational programming, which began in 1984 with one course for all ages, has grown to include multiple in-school programs for a variety of ages, staged readings in the community, stage notes to give audiences a more in-depth look at our performances, and professional training for actors to improve their performances. Will on the Web is our brand new all virtual classroom where students can engage with 6 of Shakespeare’s plays. We have two tracks: one designed for 2nd-5th Grade, and the other for 6th -12th Grade. Shakespeare on the Go! encompasses four programs that are interactive, lively, and will resonate with today’s youth. These vital programs offer outstanding educational entertainment and instruction for virtually all grades. Whether students are just starting to learn about Shakespeare or working on their own Shakespearean productions, you’ll find a program that accommodates your needs. Educator Training provides tools to teachers to help students decode Shakespeare and develop an appreciation and connection to his works in the modern classroom. Professional Training is offered throughout the year to provide actors with the opportunity to explore different methods of working with voice, text, motion, and more to improve their performance. Student Matinees are available at a discounted rate exclusively to school groups during our Indoor Winter production of Twelfth Night. Shakespeare Dallas is a non-profit organization exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3), (EIN# 23-7227157) of the Internal Revenue Code.
