Mission Statement

The Girl Friends Fund, Inc. (“The Fund”) brings dreams to life by providing scholarships and mentoring to high-achieving, African-American students who face significant financial obstacles in their path toward a college education. We recognize the limits of financial aid, as a result, the goal of our scholarship program is to offset expenses associated with tuition, books, housing and necessary college related expenses. Monetary awards are presented each Spring to a select group of graduating high school seniors, nominated by chapters of The Girl Friends®, Inc, who plan to attend an accredited four-year institution. The designated award is renewable for up to four years, provided the student continues to satisfy eligibility requirements. The Fund is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization supported through generous, tax deductible donations from members of The Girl Friends®, Inc., corporate sponsors and the general public. All members of The Girl Friends®, Inc. are members of “The Fund”.

About This Cause

The Girl Friends Fund, Inc. (“The Fund”) has provided philanthropy in the form of service and financial support to low income African-American students across the nation for over 30 years. Throughout this eventful period, despite widespread economic instability and rising tuition costs, The Fund has remained steadfast in our mission to provide renewable scholarships to students who may not otherwise have a reasonable opportunity to access a college education. The Fund serves a unique and critical niche in higher education. We are among the few organizations dedicated to addressing the funding gap between the limits of a student’s traditional financial aid and their remaining tuition costs and expenses. The Fund does more than just provide scholarships to students on their way to college. Indeed, The Fund supports those particular students who, as the result of insufficient income, may find significant hardship in realizing a collegiate education. Since 1995, The Fund has awarded over 800+ scholarships to students who have graduated from Ivy League schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and other institutions of higher learning nationwide. The goal of the scholarship program is to offset expenses associated with tuition, books, housing and other college related expenses. All scholarship awards are provided annually for up to four academic years, depending on the availability of funds. Scholarship awards are presented to selected graduating high school seniors each spring. The Girl Friends Fund scholarship program is supported through generous donations from members and chapters of The Girl Friends®, Inc., and the general public.
