Mission Statement
HOPE will share resources to provide life necessities and assistance to the underserved to make ours a community enriched.
About This Cause
History of HOPE: H.O.P.E., an acronym for Helping Others Pursue Enrichment, was formed in 1991 by the Jacksonville Ministerial Alliance to serve as a clearinghouse for churches and social service agencies in Cherokee County seeking to provide emergency assistance to those in need. Additionally, to give them the tools and resources that promote self-sufficiency by pooling resources and eliminating duplication of services. Initial services focused on our Manna Food Pantry and the Kitchen of H.O.P.E. providing food and meals for clients, case management, information, and referrals to other human resource agencies. Over the years, as H.O.P.E. grew and more funds became available, H.O.P.E. added programs to address the growing poverty rate in Cherokee County among children, the disabled, and aging members of our community by providing education resources prescription and emergency assistance to residents. As 2021 begins, HOPE enters our 30th year of humbly serving our neighbors in Cherokee County. Using our mission and vision as vehicles, HOPE seeks to: • Reduce poverty; both situational and systemic • Increase employment • Increase financial literacy • Provide emergency crisis relief • Impact future generations • Provide medical services • Increase educational opportunities H.O.P.E. Currently, we are open on Tuesday & Wednesday from 9 am -3:30 pm. | 424 appointments in 2019 | 762 appointments thus far in 2020 Practitioners and medical professionals volunteer their time in our Clinic and treat patients at a modest cost. Currently, we ask for a ten dollar donation for new patients and a five dollar donation for established patients. Patients pay for their laboratory tests; fees are negotiated with TrinCare Laboratories to minimize costs to patients. Our Clinic provides a wide variety of primary health care services. Primary Care Our Clinic provides primary care, including preventative, chronic, minor, non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, and should not be a substitute for emergency medical care. While specific services vary, we conduct general physical exams and provide testing and treatment for chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes and high blood pressure) and minor medical problems (e.g., headaches, sore throats, cough/colds, stomach issues). We also provide prescription assistance programs or other pharmaceutical services and certain gynecological services such as Well Woman Exams. In addition to our Clinic of HOPE, we aim to provide basic dental, vision, and mental and behavioral health services onsite in our newly renovated HOPE Health Wellness & Resource Center. Mental and Behavioral Health We will provide a range of mental and behavioral health services, including screening to identify mental health concerns, assessment and diagnosis, medication management, mental health counseling, and case management. Dental & Vision We will offer essential dental and vision services. Wellness Rx Exercise and Nutrition Program is in partnership with the Cherokee County Health Department. A registered nurse assesses, monitors, and educates clients with diabetes and other chronic health conditions. In doing so, the nurse prescribes an exercise regimen and nutritious foods to combat their illness. H.O.P.E. provides a safe exercise space, exercise equipment, prescribed food, and encouragement. This program will soon expand to those interested in the prevention of all chronic health conditions as well. Partners We currently partner with several local professionals and organizations to provide dental, vision, and mental health services; currently, we send clients to our partners for service. With our providers' support as volunteers providing services and as recruiters of other volunteer providers, H.O.P.E. will provide these services to our clients onsite in the HHW&RC. Education and Workforce Training Our Clinic currently serves as a clinical site for the University of Texas-Tyler and Tyler Junior College nursing students. We partner locally with Necole's Learning Academy to provide a clinical site to their medical assistant students.
