Mission Statement
Family Compass. Protecting Children as our Own. Founded in 1992, Family Compass is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthy families and a strong North Texas community by preventing child abuse and neglect.
About This Cause
The mission of Family Compass is to build healthy families and a strong North Texas community by preventing child abuse and neglect. This is accomplished through four home mentoring, community based and educational programs for families that have elevated risk for child abuse and reside in the poorest communities throughout Dallas and Collin County. All of our programs are evidence based, voluntary and free of charge. Family Compass believes that every child has the fundamental right to a healthy family and environment, the opportunity to succeed in school and the capacity to experience life without violence. Family Compass was established in 1992 as a result of escalating incidents of child abuse and a lack of services focused on primary prevention. The agency was founded by more than 400 Dallas Exchange Club members to serve this purpose and bring hope to communities throughout North Texas. In 2011, the agency underwent a three-year strategic plan to inform our work, in 2012 we celebrated our 20th anniversary and changed our name from Child Abuse Prevention Center to Family Compass and in 2014 we merged with Family Outreach Richardson-Plano (FORP), expanding services to Collin County. Since inception, Family Compass has served over 58,000 children and parents in North Texas. Additionally, all of our primary programs; Parent Aide, Healthy Families and Triple P Parenting Education have received national accreditation indicating that we implement these programs with the highest levels of fidelity.
