Mission Statement
The mission of CISNT is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
About This Cause
Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) ensures every student, regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background has what they need to realize their potential in school and beyond. Working directly inside 47 schools across Denton and Wise Counties (including 15 schools in Denton ISD), we connect students to caring adults and community resources that help them overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future. Our staff partner with school and district leadership, local nonprofits, local governments, CISNT AmeriCorps Members, interns, community volunteers, community leaders, local businesses, civic and faith groups, CISNT alumni, and our students and parents to accomplish our mission. Together, we make up the CISNT Community of Support and are a powerful agent of change committed to building an equitable path to education for future generations. More than 1 in 2 (52%) of North Texas students are economically disadvantaged, and nearly 1 in 2 (45%) of North Texas students are considered at-risk of dropping out of school (TEA, 2020). Students at-risk meet one or more of the 14 at-risk criteria, as defined by the Texas Education Agency, including but not limited to homelessness, Limited English Proficiency, incarcerated parents, children in foster care, youth who exhibit delinquent conduct, students in crisis, and students eligible for Free/Reduced lunch who also have barriers to academic success. CISNT works to address these students’ barriers to success through evidence-based case management services. Each CISNT campus has a full-time, degreed Site Coordinator who utilizes the holistic, research-based, CIS case management model. Students are referred to CISNT by school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and students themselves. Site Coordinators conduct individual needs assessments of each student and develop an individualized Case Management Plan of targeted, intensive services which address their barriers to success. These services are provided in one-on-one, small group, and schoolwide settings. Services are provided within the CISNT Six Core Components: Supportive Guidance and Counseling, Health and Human Services, Parent and Family Involvement, College and Career Readiness, Enrichment, and Academic Support. Services are provided at no cost to students or their families, and students are enrolled with the consent of their parent or guardian.
