Mission Statement
The Shaken Baby Alliance’s (SBA) mission is to provide support for victim families and professionals, to prevent child abuse and elder abuse, and to provide justice for the innocent victims of child abuse.
About This Cause
The Shaken Baby Alliance's (SBA) mission is to support victim families and professionals, prevent child and elder abuse, and provide justice for innocent victims. SBA has the goal of nationally ending Shaken Baby Syndrome, a subset of Abusive Head Trauma (SBS/AHT). The CDC defines SBS/AHT as a "preventable and severe form of physical child abuse." SBS/AHT is caused by a caregiver violently shaking and/or impacting a child's head, resulting in brain injury or death. SBA was founded on a Fort Worth kitchen table by three moms whose children were victims of SBS/AHT and could find no resources or support. SBA obtained its 501(c)3 non-profit status in 1998. Over the past 25+ years, SBA has supported families of children who have survived abuse and those who have died while simultaneously developing into a nationally recognized forensic training and case consulting agency for professionals in the child physical abuse field. SBA's three programs tackle the needs of victim families and professionals in the child physical abuse field. Victim Family Support services families of victims of child or elder abuse. Professional Support offers training and case consultation to law enforcement, investigators, first responders, and other child welfare professionals. COPE (Crying, Overwhelmed, Pause, Exit) is SBA's child abuse prevention program, focusing on reducing the risk of child abuse and violence through education for high school students, childcare providers, CPS referrals, and the community. Victim Family Services and COPE are offered free of charge. Since 1998, we have supported 7,714 victim family members, trained 31,183 multi-disciplinary professionals, and provided 2,150 case consultations. We have educated over 16,513 students on how to cope with a crying baby, the #1 trigger of SBS/AHT.
