Mission Statement
We are driven by the Gospel of Jesus Christ to safeguard, honor and advocate for the dignity of all human life. We are committed to fostering justice and embodying the teachings of Jesus as we respond to the call of serving our most vulnerable and marginalized communities. As part of the global mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we welcome the stranger and we feed the hungry. We are dedicated to work with our border communities and across ecumenical lines both locally and nationally, as well as other organizations and institutions. The Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries are a 501(c)(3) non-profit refugee ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The political refugee, as defined by the US Foreign Assistance Acts of 1961 and 1975, is a person who seeks legal entry into the United States in search of freedom from torture, arbitrary imprisonment, and arrest.
About This Cause
We are committed to fulfill the commandment of loving our neighbors as ourselves described in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Mt 10:25-37). We provide transitional room and board, clothing, food, legal aid, transportation for the change of venue of refugees reuniting with family members and sponsors, spiritual counseling, and the powerful message of Jesus Christ to the refugees that come through our doors. We also help the very needed, both nationally and internationally by providing goods and services to the poorest-of-the-poor, in the Rio Grande Valley and in Matamoros, Mexico.
