Mission Statement
On The Move develops young people as leaders by building exceptional programs that challenge inequities in their communities.
About This Cause
VOICES helps youth successfully transition from systems of care --- such as foster care, group homes and mental health --- into independent adulthood. LGBTQ Connection develops a vibrant community while increasing inclusion and well-being for LGBTQ people across Napa County. McPherson Neighborhood Initiative (MNI) increases educational equity and engages the community so that every child claims a future full of real and attainable possibilities. Citizenship Legal Services, a program of the One Napa Valley Initiative, brings together community partners and agencies to help Napa's legal permanent residents become U.S. Citizens through classes, citizenship application assistance, and support with DAPA and DACA benefits. Innovations Community Center is a peer-staffed mental health program that supports individuals from underserved communities. The Center explores the complex interplay between mental health services and aging, poverty, race, immigration status, sexual identity and substance abuse. On The Verge – the flagship program of On The Move – supports emerging leaders in building knowledge, clarity and strength at the personal, interpersonal and professional levels. Since 2004, On The Verge has mobilized over 571 emerging leaders to build and sustain a culture of effective action while enhancing California’s nonprofit and public sectors. Offered through year-long cohort programs, each leader, or “Verger,” works collaboratively to develop projects in response to identified community needs. Through meaningful and challenging shared work, Vergers form life-long connections with peers that sustain their commitment to remain in leadership within the nonprofit and public sectors. On The Verge currently operates in ten communities throughout California. La Plaza is a place where we come together to identify our own culturally centered ways of healing that are both traditional and nontraditional. We do this through arts, food, community, dance, storytelling, and much more. La Plaza offers space for the community to provide and share the many ways we already know how to heal. We have come to understand that one of the strongest ways to build a resilient and unified community is through nurturing trust. La Plaza brings new culturally relevant wellness strategies to the community to nurture community belonging and self-esteem through cultural experiences that promote self-expression, resilience, hope, and joy.
