Mission Statement
Le Chat Noir is the CSRA's only black box theatre. We produce six mainstage shows a season that usually have never been performed in Augusta before, consisting of award winning comedies, dramas, musicals, even original works. Le Chat Noir is home to the CSRA's first and only comedy improv troupe, Schrodinger's Cat; Les Chatons Noir, a pre professional training program for young artists; and Puppet Playhouse featuring touring puppet shows and our youth summer camp Matagot's school of Stagecraft and Puppetry. We also produce a variety of events like the CSRA's international film festival, The Black Cat Picture Show, Cupid's Cabaret, New Year's Masque, Black Cat Ball, Dr, Sketchy's Anti-Art School, and many more. We also host several fundraising events annually to benefit other local charities, such as, MS Society, SafeHomes Augusta, Wounded Warriors, CSRA Humane Society, Patchin Weston, just to name a few. We have renovated three dilapidated downtown buildings into a spectacular and intimate theatre space, created sustainable commerce and breathed economic life into 8th Street.
About This Cause
Since the inception of Le Chat Noir, our goal has always been to bring to the CSRA entertainment that was previously not being represented in the area. We started out producing shows that focused on scripts that have garnered Pulitzers, Tonys, Oliviers, etc; surrounded those projects with the CSRA's best production team; and cast the area's best actors. In our ten years we have built a reputation of uncompromising performance standards and established ourselves as a cultural pillar of the community. Auxiliary programming also reflects our mission to bring premiere entertainment to the CSRA. The wildly popular comedy improv troupe, Schrodinger's Cat performs every First Friday to sold out crowds. Les Chatons Noir is our program designed to offer pre professional training to young adults wishing to build a career in the arts. Dirty South Burlesque and Cabaret performs quarterly for charity. The international art movement known as Dr. Sketchy's happens right here every last Wednesday of the month. We have so much more to offer. Currently we operate at capacity and costs are scarcely covered. With additional funding we hope to further our programming and renovation of our corner of the CSRA. Programming goals include educational services, annual events that celebrate fringe performance arts, and more support for burgeoning performance artists. Renovation plans include improvements to amenities offered in our lobby and theatre; renovating our 3rd building currently being used for storage, into a studio space for educational and rehearsal purposes; we would also like to develop our back lot into a green space with decking.
