Mission Statement
The mission of Lena Pope Home is to create hope, happiness, and success for children and families. We do this by providing a range of programs through education, counseling, prevention, and early intervention.
About This Cause
Lena Pope Home has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, starting as an orphanage, later through foster care, and now through counseling and education. Today, research shows the best place for children to thrive is with their own families, so Lena Pope Home now focuses on nurturing both children and their parents until the family is strong enough to function on its own. Lena Pope Early Learning Center ~The time from birth to age 5 proves to be one of the most crucial periods in a child's development. The Lena Pope Early Learning Center (ELC) offers full-time care for up to 48 young children, ages 2 1/2 to 5, with 70% of the students on a sliding tuition scale based on family income. Six teachers, with associates degrees or higher in early childhood education, provide care and instruction using a curriculum that meets national accreditation standards. Chapel Hill Academy Charter School ~Many parents - particularly those with low income- believe they can't afford to send their kids to a quality school, but our exceptional charter school, Chapel Hill Academy, give Pre-K through 5th grade students a solid academic foundation. And, like all charter schools, it's tuition free. In 2012, 91% of our students met or exceeded the state standards for reading. Chapel Hill Academy is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency, and has the highest rating in the state's fiscal accountability review system. Family Matters Counseling and Therapy ~Lena Pope Home helps families stay happy, strong, and together through evidence-based Family Matters Counseling for depression, anxiety, conduct disorder, traumatic stress, substance abuse and more. In 2010 alone, our mental health professionals impacted approximately 7,314 people, 61% of those served were children and 39% were adults. Of the Family Matters clients, 93% were very satisfied and felt their lives had improved because of the services they received from Lena Pope Home. Alternative Education ~Students who have severe academic, social and behavioral problems in traditional classroom settings sometimes just need extra attention in a new environment. Our collaboration with the Tarrant County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program provides the setting and behavior intervention services these youth need to get back on track. Of the 3,745 students participating in this program since 1997, 96% have successfully returned to their home schools and communities with greater hope for the future - and zero subsequent offenses.
