Mission Statement
Providing resources to meet basic needs and improve quality of life for our neighbors in Montgomery County.
About This Cause
Every person comes from a different background with a different perspective undergoing different circumstances in life; what we all have in common is our desire to be treated with decency and respect. We all desire to be seen, not just as a number or case file, but as people. Here at Community Assistance Center (CAC), our mission is to provide resources to meet basic needs and improve quality of life for our neighbors in Montgomery County, Texas. We provide real, practical solutions, promoting self-sufficiency for residents throughout Montgomery County threatened by an unexpected crisis while ensuring an inviting, supportive environment for our neighbors as they seek assistance services. Community Assistance Center provides financial assistance with rent and mortgage, utilities, food, clothing, emergency shelter vouchers, prescriptions, back to school assistance, transportation vouchers, education, and disaster recovery. Formerly Montgomery County Emergency Assistance and then Crisis Assistance Center, our agency was established in 1981 as a non-profit, charitable organization to support the residents throughout all of Montgomery County. We continue to focus on strengthening Montgomery County one neighbor at a time, and we strive to meet our own expectations through the basic needs crisis intervention and case management services we provide to residents throughout our community. Here at CAC, it is our objective to provide compassion and encouragement while delivering critical services for our neighbors to achieve financial stability. What separates Community Assistance Center from other basic needs organizations is that our service area includes all of Montgomery County, and our case management services provide an individualized holistic approach with client services, support, and resources as our neighbors work to obtain self-sufficiency. We wrap our neighbors in services and support by providing quality case management, plentiful vouchers for clothing and food, various referrals and resources to guide our neighbors through challenging times. What makes our services uniquely beneficial to our community is that CAC assistance is crisis based, not income based. Challenge and hardship found in life can affect anyone across incomes and demographics through job loss, reduction in wages, illness, or unanticipated expenses and the number of requests for assistance has never been greater. While approximately 73 percent (73%) of our clients are at or below the Federal Poverty Level (FLP), a vast majority of them would also be considered the “working poor.” Through information collected by CAC case managers and other team members, many of the neighbors we see have shared stories of having to work multiple jobs, put themselves through school, becoming single parents, or are grandparents raising their grandchildren.
