About This Cause
Since 1991, Avenue has been developing and revitalizing communities with a comprehensive, collaborative approach, bringing residents and local organizations together to identify and address critical local needs to build healthy and sustainable communities. Avenue was founded in 1991 to develop affordable housing and preserve historic architecture in the Old Sixth Ward National Register Historic District, expanding to serve the First Ward and greater Northside. As Avenue’s target area has expanded, so has its vision and programming. Avenue’s fulfills its mission is to build affordable homes and strengthen communities through three primary services: developing affordable housing; providing family asset building programs, including homebuyer education and financial capability; and leading community initiatives that strengthen the impact of our affordable housing and asset building programs in Houston’s greater Northside. Avenue has leveraged $98 million in investments, developing 194 single-family homes and 746 rental units. Our targeted investment strategy has resulted in sustainable improvements in the community we serve. Through its collaborative, cross-sector approach, Avenue seeks to promote healthy, vibrant and economically diverse neighborhoods.
