Mission Statement

The Bread of Life, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a missional focus on supporting underserved communities in removing barriers to achieving their desired quality of life, and restoring hope in Houston.

About This Cause

Bread of Life, Inc.'s vision is to eliminate food insecurity while improving health outcomes in vulnerable communities in Houston, as well as providing the fundamental human needs of love, hope, dignity, and belonging. We accomplish both our mission and vision through five program areas: 1) The Academy-Workforce Development Training and job placement, 2) homeless outreach, 3) hunger relief, 4) health outcomes and mental health and wellness, and 5) our community outreach radio station KMAZ 102.5 FM, which bring educational insights on health related issue. In September of 1992, Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus founded the Bread of Life, Inc. with a simple mission to serve hot nutritious meals to homeless men and women in the downtown Houston area. By December of 1992, Bread of Life, Inc. was serving more than 500 hot meals per day in the sanctuary of St. John’s Downtown Church. It wasn’t long before Bread of Life, Inc. became a fixture in the downtown area providing much needed services, resources, and support to families in need and the homeless population. Thanks to the visionary leadership of Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, Bread of Life, Inc. has been at the forefront of HIV/AIDS prevention, eliminating food insecurity, providing permanent housing to formerly homeless individuals, and disaster relief.
