About This Cause

The Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) was incorporated in 1993 in partnership with Harris County Department of Education and received its 501(c)(3) designation in 1994. EFHC’s activities reflect the belief that every student can learn and succeed, given opportunity and education. By utilizing effective collaborations with companies and organizations, such as the Houston Endowment, CenterPoint Energy, Bank of Texas, The Brown Foundation, Wood Group USA and Houston Urban Debate League, EFHC links students with professionals to help sharpen critical thinking skills and heighten career awareness. Major programs include: 1) The All-Earth Ecobot Challenge - Now in its 13th year, Ecobot is an innovative robotic and drone competition that engages students from 4th-8th grades in STEM-based problem-solving activities. 2) CASE Debates - The program strives to equip students with critical thinking skills to help them excel academically and develop as leaders in their schools and communities. The goal is to expand competitive debate opportunities to economically disadvantaged high school students . 3) Head Start - The REAL SuperMENtors Read program engages professional men in the local community as volunteers to read aloud to low-income children participating in Head Start/Early Head Start programs in east Harris County. Volunteers read once a month to children using books purchased from Scholastic, Inc., and the students receive a copy of the book to build their home library. 4) Teacher Development/Training - We support conferences and workshops to strengthen and update teaching skills in academic subjects and topics addressing early childhood and students with special needs (e.g., students with autism, ADHD, etc.). 5) Teacher School Supplies to outfit classrooms 6) Campus grants to support innovative ideas in classrooms 7) Scholarships to graduating students continuing on to vocational school, community college, or four-year university
