Mission Statement
Our Mission: To develop, maintain, preserve, promote and protect the rugged , natural beauty of the Ozark Trail.
About This Cause
The Ozark Trail Association is a grassroots non-profit volunteer group that was incorporated and held its first construction outing in December, 2002. Today, the OTA is recognized as the premier backcountry trail organization in the state of Missouri. The Ozark Trail is one of the 20 longest backcountry trails in the country and has grown from two dozen interested people in 2002, to a membership of nearly 1,000 with 1,439 volunteers donating 15,004 hours in 2016 alone. In the past 15 years, the organization has successfully recruited volunteers and built more than 51 miles of trail. Through our Adopt-A-Trail program, our volunteers maintain over 400 miles. The OTA is getting closer to fulfilling the vision – reaching from St. Louis to Arkansas to create the Trans-Ozark Trail. Over 392 miles of the trail system have been completed and the estimated length when joined to the Ozark Highlands Trail in Arkansas will be 700 miles, not including a large loop through the St. Francois Mountains.
