Mission Statement
Bridgeway Academy is a non-profit organization in central Ohio with a mission to inspire the potential and celebrate the ability of every child.
About This Cause
Bridgeway Academy was founded in 2005 as Helping Hands Center for Special Needs by Abigail S. David and Erin K. Nealy. Both were working in the central Ohio autism and developmental disability community as owners of small private speech and music therapy practices, respectively. They observed parents struggling to meet the needs of their children, driving from school to therapy sessions located at various sites throughout the community. Abby and Erin began to dream, made plans and eventually built a center that is student- and client-centered and where educational and therapeutic goals are individualized to ensure all students achieve their full potential. No two students diagnosed with a developmental disability learn the same way or require the same therapies. Bridgeway Academy’s highly trained educational and therapeutic staff work collaboratively, providing a compassionate, evidence-based learning environment that meets the individual needs of each student. Bridgeway Academy is unique in comparison to other similar facilities because of its model of integrating therapy services within the Education Center. All children enrolled at Bridgeway Academy benefit from therapy services in one-to-one, dyad or group settings on a daily or weekly basis. This collaboration of school and therapy creates a unique and outstanding learning environment for our students, grades pre-K through 12, who attend Bridgeway Academy every day. Today, Bridgeway Academy employs a staff of more than one-hundred sixty full-time certified teachers, therapists, psychologists and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) who all have extensive training. During the 2017-18 academic year, Bridgeway Academy expanded its programming by opening a Secondary School and Therapy Center in a former Columbus City School building located at 2155 Fenton Street in Columbus. The Secondary School and Therapy Center will serve students 4th grade and above, house the Life and Vocational Skills Centers, all while offering the same excellent educational and therapeutic services for which the organization is known.
