Believing in the dignity of every person, at Poverello House we work to enrich the lives and spirits of all who pass our way by stewarding the resources made available to us through Providential and community support.
About This Cause
Since 1973, Poverello House has been providing services to those who are experiencing homelessness. The very roots of the organization started with one man, Mike McGarvin ,who began serving peanut butter sandwiches out of the back of his car in downtown Fresno. This work would growinto providing chili beans, coff ee, and other food as morepeople joined Mr. McGarvin's eff orts. Mike desired to offer more than just food; he wanted to show care and love to those he served on the streets. How he served others eventually led to those on the streets calling him "Papa Mike." PapaMike's peanut butter sandwich service has blossomed into a Culinary Services Department that now provides over 1,000,000 hot meals annually. Poverello House has dramatically grown beyond a soup kitchen by offering whole-person care to individuals experiencing homelessness. The organization operates the following programs: - Homeless Outreach Progressive Engagement - Men's Rehabilitation Program - HOPE Pointe Emergency Shelter and Bridge Housing - Family Hope Shelter - Multi-Agency Access Program (MAP Point) - The Enrichment Center - Village of Hope - Naomi's House Triage Center - Coordinated Entry System (CES) Management - Rapid Rehousing Program - Street Navigation Program - Meal Services (Papa Mike's Café): Lastly, Papa Mike's Caféis a no-cost, full-service restaurant serving three made-to-order meals for anyone in need in our community. At PapaMike's Café, we are on a mission to offer more than just meals; we are dedicated to providing a restaurant-style experience for all individuals in our community. With a warm ambiance and attentive service, our goal is to make every visitor feel at home.
