City Lights Theater Company creates provocative live productions that build community by engaging, inspiring, and challenging audiences and artists alike.
About This Cause
Serving San Jose CA and the greater Bay Area for over forty years, City Lights Theater Company (CLTC) produces six plays a year in its intimate 100-seat venue aimed at exhilarating, entertaining, and provoking thought in our audiences. In addition, City Lights goes beyond the stage supporting the community with multiple programs. The Lights Up! Festival of New Works provides staged readings with audience feedback for new playwrights. The Youth and Education Program offers discounted tickets to students and educators, workshops for school drama classes, in-depth study guides for all mainstage productions, and internship opportunities for college-aged students. CLTC's Lights and Music Concert Series features local musicians and artists, providing them with performance space and dedicated outreach on their behalf to our supporters. The Non-Profit Partner Program prominently features a charitable partner's display stand in our lobby during each mainstage performance as well as allowing representatives to share their mission during a dedicated performance with 25% of that day's sales going directly to their organization. City Lights has been recognized for sound fiscal management (including closing 21 consecutive seasons in the black), for expanding artistic reach and achievement, and for securing its place in the cultural landscape of the South Bay and beyond.
