Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing homeownership opportunities to low-income families. Habitat partners with community volunteers, low-income households, and local donors to build simple, durable, and energy-efficient homes. Habitat homeowners qualify based on need, ability to repay the zero-interest mortgage, and willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat homeowners are required to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity towards the construction of a Habitat home.

About This Cause

Habitat for Humanity Santa Cruz County homes are constructed with sustainability in mind. Each home incorporates a variety of green features including engineered lumber, advanced framing technology, energy-efficient fixtures and appliances, and drought-tolerant landscaping. Through the generous support of PG&E many of our homes also incorporate solar panels. Habitat for Humanity operates a ReStore to provide additional funding to support affordable home building. The ReStore is a volunteer driven home improvement store that accepts and resells new and reusable building materials, appliances, hardware, and furniture to the public at a fraction of normal retail prices. More than 80% of the labor used to build a Habitat home is provided by volunteers. Whether you have never picked up a hammer before or do so every day, you can make an impact by volunteering on the job-site. It is a great way to learn new skills, meet new friends and make a difference in your community. If construction is not your thing, volunteers are also needed at the ReStore. From customer service to furniture repair, the Habitat ReStore offers volunteer opportunities geared toward individual interests and skills.
