Turning Point Foundation’s Mission is to provide housing, rehabilitation, recovery and support services to adults disabled by mental illness to help them overcome barriers and reach their highest potential as contributing members of the community
About This Cause
Turning Point Foundation is a community-based non-profit organization in California serving Ventura County residents since 1988 who are disabled by mental illness. Turning Point Foundation believes that persons living with mental illness can and do recover. Our housing programs cover the full spectrum of housing from emergency shelter to transitional, permanent supportive and residential care: • Our Place Shelter and Multi-Service Center in Ventura for persons who are homeless and mentally ill operates 24 hours a day providing overnight shelter and case management for 14 persons, and a drop-in center offering meals, showers, and laundry facilities and linkage to mental health, social services and housing for 20 to 25 non-residential persons each day; • River Haven an alternative transitional "Tiny House" community for 25 homeless persons which provides a clean and sober environment and case management services to assist residents to obtain medical, mental health, substance abuse, and social services, benefits, or work and permanent housing. • Veterans Transitional Housing Program 15 beds for veterans who were experiencing homelessness with supportive services and case management to help them recover and transition back into civilian life. • Rehabilitation and Recovery Centers: including the New Visions Center in Ventura and the Oxnard Clubhouse Center in Oxnard offer clients a place to improve their community living skills, learn to live more independently, engage in work and productive activities, and become more integrated into their community; • Supported Housing Programs provide supportive permanent very low-income housing with supportive services to assist disabled mentally ill residents to obtain and maintain housing. Housing includes two facilities: 15 unit SRO (single room occupancy) in Oxnard, a 10 unit SRO in Ventura, a 23 unit one bedroom apartment complex in Camarillo, and residential care housing for 26 in Ventura and 36 seniors (59+) in Camarillo. • The Wellness Center in Ventura is a self-help center that offers services provided by Peer Support Specialists with lived experience to assist mental health consumers to continue their recovery. Here members create a wellness and recovery action plan and participate in activities that help them manage the symptoms of their mental illness, expand their support system, achieve life goals, and create a meaningful life in the community. • Mobile Wellness Program: A program in board and care homes in Oxnard and Ventura where Peer Support staff and community members provide groups and activities designed to improve the quality of life and community integration of residents and enhance the physical environment. • R.I.S.E. : Rapid Integrated Support & Engagement, a field-based outreach team, encourages and engages people experiencing homelessness and mental health to get assessment and treatment • Growing Works provides horticultural therapy and supported vocational experience to an underserved population.
