Mission Statement

Herman Parent Faculty Club (PFC) is a home and school association whose purpose is to foster a closer relationship between home and school and to assist in the general welfare of Leonard Herman Intermediate School, its students, and the community. To achieve this goal, PFC conducts fundraising activities to purchase durable goods and promote activities and programs that enhance the education of all children at the school. PFC strives to promote mutual cooperation and communication between PFC and all other parent groups, as well as the school itself. PFC also supports student programs that allow opportunities for us to come together as a community to help support other groups in need. All staff, parents, guardians and anyone directly involved with a student of Herman Intermediate School are considered members of PFC. All members are encouraged to participate in PFC activities throughout the year even if they are unable to attend monthly meetings. The Executive Board represents the membership and is composed of PFC voting members who are either elected or appointed to Officer or Director positions. The Executive Board meets on a monthly basis throughout the school year. Board members manage the organizational and financial aspects of all PFC functions. PFC operates on an annual budget, which is approved by a PFC membership vote. Any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in loco parent is for a student at the school, as well as the principal and any teacher or staff employed by the school, has voting privileges if they are in good standing with PFC and demonstrate active participation in the activities sponsored by PFC and the school. The money used to sponsor PFC activities is raised through annual PFC fundraising events. The success of PFC can be measured in the cooperative spirit with which parents and staff work together to share their care and concern for Herman Intermediate School students. The PFC’s success can be seen in the student’s appreciation for their school, their teachers and the opportunities presented.

About This Cause

Herman Parent Faculty Club (PFC) is Leonard Herman Intermediate School’s Home and School Association. As a PFC our purpose is to foster a closer relationship between home and school, and to assist in the general welfare of Herman Intermediate School, the students, and the community. To achieve this goal, Herman PFC conducts fundraising activities in order to purchase durable goods and to promote activities and programs that enhance the education of all children at the school. Examples of our fundraising activities include our annual Direct Donation Drive, Spirit Wear sales and funds donated from community partners, such as grocery stores and online retailers. We also work with local restaurants to have fundraising nights where teachers, staff, students, and families are able to come together at a local restaurant for a meal and a portion of the proceeds are donated back to the school. PFC funds student rewards, library purchases, a portion of the cost of the Herman SchoolLoop account, Student of the Month lunches, Staff Appreciation events and Grants for various departments. Our financial goal each year is to maintain our operating budget and use the money raised to provide rewards, recognition and tools to students and staff for the students and staff of Herman Intermediate School. PFC also supports student programs that allow opportunities for us to come together as a community to help support other groups in need. Our annual Charity Fair is an example of one such program. Charity fair is a cross-curricular service learning opportunity aimed at raising student awareness of different ways in which they can make a difference in their community, nationally and worldwide and develop empathy for those less fortunate or in need. Students research social problems, empathize with those in need, research different charities, including how they use their funds and develop a presentation to communicate their findings. Students then use the engineering design process to design and craft a product for sale at the annual Charity Fair. After Charity Fair, the student body votes for the charity they think was the most deserving considering its mission and usage of donations, and the money collected during the event is then donated in its entirety to the winning charity(ies).
